Tzatziki Sauce Recipe

Tzatziki sauce combines creamy Greek yogurt with finely grated cucumber, fresh dill, and garlic, balanced by lemon juice and olive oil. This chilled sauce has a cool, tangy flavor with a smooth yet slightly textured consistency thanks to the grated cucumber. Its refreshing qualities make it a popular accompaniment to grilled meats, gyros, or as a dip for vegetables and pita bread.

Description

The Tzatziki Sauce Recipe blends plain Greek yogurt with peeled and finely grated cucumber, minced garlic, fresh chopped dill, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and cracked black pepper. The grated cucumber is pressed to remove excess moisture, preventing watery sauce. Stirring the ingredients together and chilling enhances the flavors and texture. The sauce is creamy but retains some refreshing crunch from the cucumber. Lemon juice brightens the sauce, while garlic and dill add herbal and aromatic notes.

Use the tzatziki as a complement for grilled dishes or Mediterranean-style meals, spreading it on sandwiches or serving it alongside fresh vegetables. Its cooling effect balances spicy or hearty foods well.

For best results, full-fat Greek yogurt adds richness, but reduced fat versions work too. Removing excess cucumber liquid is key to avoid thinning the sauce. Adjust salt and pepper after combining to suit your taste. Prepared tzatziki can be covered and refrigerated until ready to serve, allowing the flavors to meld.
