Wendy’s Chili

Wendy’s Chili is a hearty, savory chili featuring ground beef simmered with tomato juice, tomato puree, and a blend of beans and vegetables. The mix of chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and other seasonings creates a balanced and mildly spiced flavor. Slow simmering deepens taste and thickens the chili, resulting in a classic, comforting dish.

Description

This chili recipe starts by browning fresh ground beef and then combining it with tomato juice, tomato puree, red kidney beans, pinto beans, onion, celery, and green bell pepper. A seasoning blend including chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, oregano, sugar, and cayenne pepper adds complexity and warmth.

The ingredients are simmered together for at least 45 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and the chili to develop a rich, hearty consistency. The mixture can be cooked on the stovetop or in a slow cooker, making it versatile for preparation.

Wendy’s Chili works well as a filling main dish during colder months, served with cornbread or over rice. Adjusting the chili powder amount lets you control the heat level according to taste.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 pounds ground beef fresh
  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • 29 ounces tomato puree canned
  • 15 ounces red kidney beans drained, canned
  • 15 ounces pinto beans drained, canned
  • 1 large onion chopped (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup celery diced
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper diced
  • 1/4 cup chili powder you may want to use less, as some people find this is too much
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet and drain the grease.
  2. Put the drained beef and the remaining ingredients in a 6-quart pot or slow cooker and stir to combine.
  3. If using a pot, cover and simmer for at least 45 minutes. If you have time, I recomment to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes, for the best flavor.
  4. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 4 hours.
