Air Fryer Doughnuts From Scratch
Description
This recipe creates doughnuts by rolling out bread maker doughnut dough and cutting it into doughnut shapes and holes using biscuit cutters. The doughnuts and holes are cooked in the air fryer at 180°C (360°F) for eight minutes, with a spray of extra virgin olive oil applied halfway through cooking to encourage an appealing golden color. After cooling slightly, a glaze made from icing sugar, milk, and vanilla essence is applied, with optional coloring and sprinkles added for decoration. The air-frying method offers a less greasy alternative to deep-frying while still producing tender, fluffy doughnuts with a crisp exterior.
The batch outlined here yields about seven doughnuts, though eight can be made by adjusting the dough ball size before rolling. The doughnuts pair well with sweet glazes and decorations, making them suitable for breakfast or dessert treats.
Ingredients
Kitchen Gadgets:
- Air Fryer
- Round Biscuit Cutters
- ramekins
- Spatula
- rolling pin
Air Fryer Doughnuts Ingredients:
- 500 g Bread Maker Doughnut Dough
- 240 ml icing sugar
- 40 ml milk whole
- 1 Tsp vanilla essence
- olive oil extra virgin, spray
- plain flour for rolling
- Food Coloring for glaze
- 100 ’s and 1000’s for sprinkling
Instructions
- Remove your doughnut dough from the bread maker and roll out on a floured worktop. Add a little extra flour to the rolling pin to prevent it sticking.
- Using your biscuit cutters cut out the big doughnut shapes. Then cut out using a smaller cutter the doughnut holes. Put the doughnut holes to one side.
- Load up to 4 doughnuts into the air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes at 180c/360. Though after 4 minutes spray with extra virgin olive oil to help with the golden glow.
- Mix milk and icing sugar together in a bowl until you have a thick glaze. Add food colouring or separate into ramekins if doing different coloured doughnuts. Sprinkle with 100’s and 1000’s and eat.
Notes
- This recipe yields approximately seven doughnuts, but you can make eight by adjusting dough ball size before rolling.
- Spraying doughnuts with extra virgin olive oil halfway through cooking promotes a golden color.
- Use biscuit cutters of appropriate sizes to shape doughnut rings and holes properly.
