Ingredients
- 4 sirloin steaks (see notes)
- 4 tablespoon cooking oil (see notes)
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoon butter (see notes)
Instructions
- Set the air fryer to 400°F and preheat for 5 minutes.
- Rub the steaks with the olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
- air fry the steak anywhere from 6-14 minutes, depending on how you like your steak cooked. (see notes)
- After the steak is cooked to your liking, you can just cover it loosely with some foil so it can rest for 5 minutes. (see notes)
- Add ½ a tablespoon of butter to each steak and serve with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Sirloin steaks - This budget-friendly cut cooks well in the air fryer, even though it's one of the leaner cuts. It's sold in supermarkets in 8-oz., 12-oz., or 16-oz. portions. I usually buy 2 medium-sized steaks and cut them down to 4, each about 6 oz.
- Cooking oil - I use avocado oil because it has a high heat index, which is crucial for achieving that perfect sear on the sirloin steaks. If you prefer, you can use canola, sunflower, peanut, or grapeseed oil instead.
- Butter - A dollop of butter on each steak tastes delicious and adds an excellent finish. You can use plain or compound butter, which can be homemade or purchased from a store.
- Cooking times - Please look at the Air fryer steak cooking chart in the main post to help you figure out how long to cook your steak. For best results, stop cooking the steak about 10 degrees before it reaches the ideal temperature. The steak will continue to cook for a few minutes after it's removed from the air fryer.
- Resting time - This is essential for a juicy steak. Resting gives the meat fibers time to relax and the juices time to redistribute, making the steak more succulent and tender.
