Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry

Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry, an absolutely delicious dessert recipe made with a few simple ingredients that taste and have the flavour of Fall. Ready in well under an hour, and that includes cooling time too. A family-favourite dessert for the Thanksgiving dinner too. The apples are cooked with brown sugar and cinnamon, and the puff pastry is golden and baked to perfection. What a treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 puff pastry ready-rolled
  • 1 tablespoon butter (15 g)
  • 6 apple
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 1 egg to brush

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apples.
  2. Cut them into quarters, then chop into small cubes - either with a knife or a vegetable cutter.
  3. Melt the butter, then add the chopped apples and cook for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.
  4. Add the sugar, cinnamon and lemon extract, and continue to stir for a further 1-2 minutes, or until soft.
  5. Remove from the heat and leave to cool completely.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry, cut 6 squares, then add about 2 tablespoons of filling onto each square.
  7. Fold the pastry across diagonally to form a triangle, and use a fork to press the edges to seal.
  8. Beat the egg well, then brush all over the pasties.
  9. Use a sharp knife or a fork to make a few cuts on top of the pastry - that will allow the steam to escape during baking.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 Fahrenheit) on the middle rack of the oven for 20 minutes or until golden.
