Description
Asian Glazed Drumsticks combines simple ingredients to create a sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy glaze that clings to the chicken. The skinless drumsticks are first browned quickly in a pan to build flavor and texture, then simmered gently in a mixture of water, balsamic vinegar, low sodium soy sauce, honey, fresh garlic, grated ginger, and sriracha. This cooking softens the meat and infuses it with balanced savory, sweet, and spicy aromas.
After simmering, the sauce is reduced uncovered over medium-high heat to a thick glaze that coats the drumsticks, concentrating the flavors. The final topping of chopped chives and toasted sesame seeds adds brightness and crunch. This preparation delivers tender chicken with a shiny, flavorful coating, suitable as a main course or served alongside rice or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumsticks skin removed, medium
- olive oil spray form
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp sriracha (more or less to taste)
- 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/3 cup soy sauce low sodium
- 1 tbsp honey (or sugar)
- 3 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 2 tbsp chives chopped, or scallions
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a heavy large saucepan, brown chicken on high for 3-4 minutes with a little spray oil.
- Add water, balsamic, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, hot sauce and cook on high until liquid comes to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes.
- Remove cover and bring heat to high, allowing sauce to reduce down, about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes thick, turning chicken occasionally. (Keep an eye on glaze, you don't want it to burn when it start becoming thick).
- Transfer chicken to a platter and pour sauce on top.
- Top with chives and sesame seeds and serve.
