Baked BBQ Chicken Breast Recipe

This Baked BBQ Chicken Breast recipe features boneless, pounded chicken breasts coated with salt, pepper, and barbecue sauce, then baked until cooked through and glazed. The method allows even cooking and a balanced smoky, sweet BBQ flavor. The chicken finishes with a juicy interior and sauce-coated exterior suitable for a main dish.

Description

The recipe begins by pounding chicken breasts to an even thickness, promoting consistent cooking. The breasts are seasoned with sea salt and black pepper, then coated generously with BBQ sauce. The sauce serves both as marinade and glaze during baking.

Chicken breasts bake in a 400°F oven for 15 minutes, then are basted with additional BBQ sauce and baked another 15 minutes until reaching an internal temperature of 165°F. This process results in tender, juicy chicken with a sticky barbecue glaze.

This straightforward preparation pairs well with sides like vegetables, salads, or grains and is suitable for casual meals. Pounding the chicken is optional but helps prevent uneven cooking and promotes tenderness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 chicken breast pounded (see notes
  • ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper sea salt
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce storebought or homemade for refined sugar-free

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish and sprinkle the tops with salt and pepper. Pour the BBQ sauce over top then shake the pan a little so that the chicken is well coated.
  3. Bake the chicken for 15 minutes. Baste the tops with some of the BBQ sauce in that baking dish then return it to the oven and continue to bake the chicken for another 15 minutes, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Notes

  • Pounding the chicken breasts to even thickness ensures consistent cooking, but is not required.
  • To pound, place chicken between parchment paper with a cloth on top, then gently flatten using a rubber mallet or rolling pin without making them too thin.
