Baked Feta Cheese With Honey
Description
This recipe features an 8-ounce piece of feta cheese blotted dry, placed in an oven-proof dish and brushed with extra virgin olive oil. It is then sprinkled with dried oregano, chili flakes, and black sesame seeds before broiling until the surface bubbles and begins to brown lightly. The hot cheese is immediately drizzled with Greek honey, introducing a rich sweetness that balances the salty and spicy notes from the cheese and seasonings.
The finished dish pairs well with homemade crackers, pita chips, or warm crusty bread for dipping and scooping. The contrast in textures between the creamy melted cheese, crunchy seeds, and liquid honey makes for an elevated simple appetizer that is quick to prepare.
For best results, use good quality Greek feta in brine, such as Dodoni or Mt Vikos brands. Avoid fat-free feta as it lacks the authentic flavor and texture. Honey may be substituted with maple syrup if desired, although Greek honey complements the feta distinctively. Nutritional values will vary depending on chosen products.
