Banana Bread Recipe Using Buttermilk

This Banana Bread uses ripe bananas and buttermilk to create a moist, tender quick bread. It includes a blend of all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt combined with mashed bananas, eggs, buttermilk, sugars, melted butter, and vanilla. The bread bakes in a loaf pan until golden, producing a soft crumb with balanced sweetness suitable for breakfast or snack times.

Description

The Banana Bread Recipe Using Buttermilk starts with a mixture of all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt as the dry base. Ripe bananas are mashed and combined with eggs, buttermilk, both granulated and brown sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract to develop a smooth batter.

Care is taken to mix wet and dry ingredients just until combined to avoid overworking the batter, which keeps the bread tender. The batter is poured into a greased loaf pan and baked at 350°F for about an hour until a toothpick inserted in the center is clean. If the top browns too quickly, foil is tented over to prevent over-browning.

Once baked, the bread is cooled in the pan briefly before removing to a wire rack to cool completely, allowing it to set and making slicing easier. This loaf serves well as a sweet breakfast bread or a casual snack, highlighting the rich moistness from buttermilk and banana.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 medium banana 1 cup, ripe
  • 2 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 5"x9" loaf pan. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas then whisk in the eggs, buttermilk, both the sugars, melted butter, and vanilla.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until they are just combined. Do not over mix the batter.
  4. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Check the bread after 45 minutes and if it is golden brown on top, tent it loosely with a piece of foil to prevent it from browning too much. Let it cool for 10 minutes in the loaf pan then remove it and cool it completely on a wire rack before slicing it.
