BBQ Crockpot Beef Ribs Recipe

BBQ Crockpot Beef Ribs are seasoned with a dry rub of paprika, garlic and onion powders, oregano, salt, and pepper, slow-cooked for tenderness. After 10 hours on low in the slow cooker with BBQ sauce, the ribs are broiled briefly to caramelize the sauce, creating a tender meat with a sticky, flavorful finish. This method ensures rich seasoning and fall-off-the-bone texture.

Description

This recipe uses a blend of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper as a dry rub to coat eight beef back ribs evenly. The ribs slow cook in a crockpot with most of the BBQ sauce poured over them, gently breaking down connective tissues over 10 hours on low heat. Once tender, the ribs are finished under a broiler to caramelize the remaining BBQ sauce, resulting in a sticky, slightly charred surface.

The slow cooking process produces meat that is tender yet firm enough to handle, with the spices and BBQ sauce creating a well-seasoned, savory profile. This preparation is ideal for a relaxed weekend meal or gathering.

Before seasoning, removing any thin membrane from the back of the rack ensures better flavor absorption and texture. The recipe suggests optional parsley garnish for color. Choose BBQ sauce fitting dietary needs if required.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons oregano
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pepper
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 8 beef back ribs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce divided - see notes

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, pepper, and salt.
  2. Sprinkle the spices evenly over both sides of the ribs.
  3. Place the ribs into your slow cooker, pour ¾ cup of the BBQ sauce over the ribs, and set your slow cooker for 10 hours on low.
  4. When the ribs have finished cooking, preheat your oven to broil with a rack in the top third of the oven. Carefully remove the ribs (they will be tender!) from your slow cooker and place them on a baking sheet.  Baste one side with the remaining ¼ cup of BBQ sauce then broil them for 5-6 minutes, until the BBQ sauce is bubbling and starts to caramelize and smell extra sweet.
  5. Remove the ribs from the oven and serve right away.

Notes

  • Ensure to remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs for better seasoning and tenderness.
  • Use a BBQ sauce suitable for your dietary preferences if needed, such as gluten-free or paleo-friendly options.
  • Sprinkling minced parsley before serving adds color but is optional.
