Best Apple Pie Egg Rolls

Best Apple Pie Egg Rolls are filled with softened, cinnamon-spiced diced Granny Smith apples cooked in vegan butter and brown sugar, then wrapped in egg roll wrappers and pan-fried until golden brown. The crispy exterior complements the warm, sweet, and tangy apple filling seasoned with lemon juice and cinnamon, making a handheld dessert or snack that merges the flavors of apple pie with the crunch of fried egg rolls.

Description

This recipe transforms classic apple pie flavors into crispy egg rolls by cooking peeled and diced Granny Smith apples with vegan butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until tender. A touch of flour is added to thicken the filling, and lemon juice provides a slight tartness to balance the sweetness.

The filling is wrapped in egg roll wrappers moistened at the edges for sealing, creating neat parcels that fry up to a golden-brown crisp in vegan butter. The contrast between the crunchy outer shell and soft, warmly spiced apple interior defines the texture.

The egg rolls are served warm, and a mixture of remaining sugar and cinnamon can be used as a coating for added sweetness and spice. These are suitable as a snack, dessert, or treat and offer a different way to enjoy apple pie flavors with an easy-to-handle form.

The recipe is adapted from a reputable magazine source and uses vegan butter, but standard butter can be used alternatively.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 medium apple peeled and diced, Granny Smith
  • 3 tablespoon vegan butter such as Miyokonos or Earth Balance, unsalted or coconut oil
  • 4 tablespoon brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 8 egg roll wrappers vegan or regular ones

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoon of vegan butter in a large non-stick pan over medium heat. In a medium bowl add diced apples and sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of sugar and ¾ teaspoons cinnamon.
  2. Add apples to a pan and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with a flour, lightly stir and cook for 1 more minute. Remove from the heat, stir in lemon juice and mix to combine.
  3. Place egg roll wrapper on a working surface with one corner facing you. Lightly moisten the edges with water.
  4. Place about ⅓ cup of apple filling in a center of a wrapper and tightly fold the bottom corner over the filling. Fold corners in from the sides and then roll the log up and seal top corner. The filling should be enough for 8 logs.
  5. In a shallow bowl combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  6. Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in a shallow skillet and over medium heat. Add apple pies and cook on each side turning frequently until golden brown, about 4 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and dredge in a sugar-cinnamon mixture. Serve.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart flavor and good structure in the filling.
  • Coat finished egg rolls in a cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra sweetness and spice.
  • Vegan butter can be substituted with regular unsalted butter or coconut oil as preferred.
  • Ensure the egg roll edges are sealed well with water to prevent filling leakage during frying.
