BEST Char Siu Sauce

A flavorful Char Siu Sauce combining hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, Chinese rice wine, and aromatic spices such as Chinese five spice, garlic powder, and ground ginger creates a balanced glaze. It's simmered briefly and cooled for ready use, with optional red food coloring for the traditional look. The sauce is suited for marinating or glazing pork and can be stored refrigerated for at least two weeks.

Description

BEST Char Siu Sauce brings together key ingredients like hoisin and soy sauces, sweeteners such as honey and brown sugar, and seasonings including Chinese five spice, garlic powder, and ground ginger. Cooking the mixture until it simmers helps meld the flavors, and optional oyster sauce adds depth. The sauce is simmered for five minutes then cooled, resulting in a thick, balanced glaze ideal for barbecued pork or other meats. Its combination of sweet, savory, and fragrant spices distinguishes it as a classic approach to Char Siu flavoring.

The sauce is easy to prepare with pantry staples and can be stored in the refrigerator for at least two weeks, making it convenient. Adding a few drops of red food coloring is optional to achieve the traditional red hue commonly associated with Char Siu dishes.
