Ingredients
- 2 bratwurst
- 1 onion sliced
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1/2 can beer
- pizza dough homemade or store bought
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- 1 bell pepper sliced
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. If you are using leftover bratwurst and onions skip to step #4.
- Heat a frying pan of medium low heat and add the butter. Put the uncooked brats and onion in the skillet and stir to brown.
- After about 2 minutes add the beer to the skillet. Let the brats and onion cook until most of the beer has evaporated, about 8 minutes.
- Spread the pizza dough out in your pizza pan. Put the dough in a preheated 500 degree F oven for 6 minutes.
- While the pizza dough starts cooking cut the bratwurst into slices about 1/4 - 1/2 inch wide and dice the bell pepper.
- Take the pizza dough out and add the mozzarella cheese on top. Then spread the cooked onions out. Top that with the sliced brats and bell peppers. Finish the pizza off with the cheddar cheese.
- Put the pizza back in the oven and cook until the dough is crisp and cooked through, about 12 minutes.
- Let the pizza rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
- Serve with spicy mustard for drizzling or dipping.
Notes
- Preheating the oven before cooking the dough is very, very important for the best crust!
- You can add more toppings if you like. Mushrooms or bacon would probably be good, but too many toppings can make a pizza soggy, so don't go overboard.
- If you don't like beer you can use chicken or beef broth instead to boil the sausages and cook the onions.
- Add 1/4 cup of sauerkraut to the pizza along with the onions to make this more of a German bratwurst pizza.
