Brazilian Brigadeiros
Description
The Brazilian Brigadeiros recipe relies on condensed milk, cacao powder, and butter cooked slowly until the mixture thickens to a fudge-like consistency that can be molded. The gradual cooking and constant stirring prevent burning and help achieve a shiny, smooth texture. Cooling the mixture in the fridge firms it enough to be rolled by hand without sticking. Rolling them and coating with sprinkles or coconut flakes completes their traditional presentation.
The resulting treats have a soft, chewy bite with a deep chocolate taste tempered by the sweetness of condensed milk. They are typically served at parties rolled in paper liners or on a platter lined with waxed paper. Their small size and finger-food nature make them easy to serve and enjoy casually or as part of dessert spreads.
Ingredients
- 1 can condensed milk
- 3 tbs cacao powder unsweetened
- 1 tsp butter
- chocolate sprinkles or dried coconut flakes
Instructions
- Grease a plate with butter and set aside.
- Put the condensed milk, cocoa powder (sifted if you want) and butter in a small pot.
- Cook it over a slow heat about 10-12 minutes, constantly mixing with a wooden spoon or spatula, until it almost sticks to the bottom of the pot. Once you can run your spoon or spatula through the middle of the mixture without it running back together for 2-3 seconds, it is done.
- Turn the heat off and pour it over the lightly greased plate.
- Let it cool in the fridge for an hour.
- Then, grease your hands with butter and mold the brigadeiro in little balls, taking small portions of the chocolate mix with a small spoon.
- Cover it with chocolate sprinkles and then put it in little paper molds or on a platter lined with wax paper.
