Chicken Chow Mein
Description
Chicken Chow Mein features bite-sized, boneless chicken breast pieces stir-fried alongside julienned carrots, chopped snow peas, and thinly sliced cabbage. The noodles are cooked separately and combined at the end with a sauce crafted from soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil, which brings a subtle sweetness and umami depth. The quick, high-heat cooking preserves the texture of the vegetables and melds the flavors efficiently.
The dish is finished with a garnish of green onions and toasted sesame seeds, adding fresh and nutty notes. Its combination of protein, vegetables, and noodles makes it a complete meal, versatile enough to pair with steamed rice if desired or enjoyed on its own.
The recipe includes a sauce that can be mixed ahead of time and stored sealed until use, simplifying the cooking process on busy days. Keeping the garlic from burning during stir-fry is key to maintaining the sauce's balanced flavor.
