Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
Description
This recipe prepares medium strawberries by washing and drying them thoroughly to ensure the chocolate adheres properly. Chocolate (dark, milk, or white) is gently melted over simmering water using a heatproof bowl with butter added for richness and a glossy finish. Each strawberry is dipped into the warm chocolate nearly to the leaves and twirled to coat evenly.
The coated strawberries are placed on parchment paper to set at room temperature or chilled briefly in the refrigerator until the coating hardens. The chocolate layer provides a slight snap contrasting with the tender, juicy fruit inside. These sweets are best served the same day to enjoy fresh strawberry quality.
Choosing medium-sized strawberries is recommended over very large berries for balanced flavor and easier coating. Using high-quality chocolate enhances the overall taste. Ensuring strawberries are room temperature and completely dry is key to an even coating without streaks or patches.
Ingredients
- 24 medium strawberries
- 1 cup chocolate dark, milk or white, cut into small pieces
- 2 teaspoons butter
Instructions
- Wash 24 medium strawberries under cold water, dry well and lay them on a dry kitchen towel. Line a tray with parchment paper.
- Fill ⅓ of a small saucepan with water. Once it starts to simmer, place a pyrex glass bowl to sit on top of the pan, and pour in 1 cup chocolate pieces.
- When most of the chocolate has melted, stir in 2 teaspoons butter and mix well. Remove from heat and set aside to cool down.
- After the chocolate has cooled, and is only slightly warm, holding each strawberry by its leaves, dip ¾ into the chocolate and twirl to fully coat it. Hold over the bowl and turn slightly so any excess drips fall into the bowl. Then place the strawberry on the parchment paper to set. Do the same with the rest of the strawberries.
- Keep in a cool part of the kitchen to set or chill in the fridge for 10-15 minutes, till the chocolate has hardened. Serve the same day.
Notes
- Select ripe, firm medium-sized strawberries for best flavor and coating.
- Thoroughly dry strawberries after washing to help chocolate adhere well.
- Use good quality chocolate for a richer taste and better texture.
- Dip strawberries when chocolate is warm but not hot to avoid wilting the fruit.
- Serve the dipped strawberries the same day to preserve freshness.
