Cinnamon Baked Apples

Report
Cinnamon Baked Apples feature thin apple wedges baked with butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, and cornstarch, creating a warm and tender fruit dessert with a lightly thickened sauce. The spices can be varied, and additional textures like pecans or a caramel drizzle can be added to complement the naturally sweet and soft baked apples. This comforting recipe is versatile, with options to include pears or extra flavor enhancers.

Description

This recipe for Cinnamon Baked Apples brings together thinly sliced apples baked in a mixture of butter, maple syrup, and cinnamon, thickened with cornstarch to create a syrupy coating. The apples soften and release their natural juices during the 30-minute baking, absorbing the warm spice from the cinnamon. The baking process turns the fruit tender while maintaining enough structure in the wedges.

These baked apples can be served as a dessert or a sweet side, suitable alone or with additions like a drizzle of caramel sauce. Variations include swapping cinnamon for nutmeg or ginger or combining all three spices for depth. For texture contrast, crushed pecans can be sprinkled on top before baking. Mixing in a bit of water before baking results in a more abundant sauce.

It's also possible to substitute half the apples with pears to change the flavor profile slightly. A touch of brown sugar added before baking deepens the sweetness and caramelization.
