Description
The dessert starts by blooming unflavored gelatin in cold water, then mixing it into hot brewed coffee sweetened with sugar until fully dissolved. The mixture is chilled to solidify into a firm jelly. Once set, it is cut into cubes and served with a blend of condensed milk and table cream, which adds sweetness and smooth texture.
This coffee jelly creates a contrast between the bittersweet coffee flavor and the rich cream topping. Using Knox brand gelatin and about 4 cups of strong coffee is recommended to achieve the preferred texture and flavor balance.
Ingredients
- 1 box gelatin unflavored, 1 ounce, (Knox brand used
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 can condensed milk 14 ounces
- 1 can table cream 12.8 ounces
Instructions
- In a large bowl, sprinkle the gelatin on the remaining 1 cup of cold water. Let stand for about 1 minute or until gelatin powder begins to bloom.
- In a sauce pot, bring 3 cups of the water to a boil. Add instant coffee and sugar. Stir until dissolved.
- Gradually add the 3 cups of boiling coffee to the bloomed gelatin and stir constantly for about 2 to 3 minutes or until gelatin is completely dissolved and no granules are visible.
- Transfer mixture into a baking dish and allow to completely cool. Refrigerate for about 2 to 3 hours or until completely set.
- In a bowl, combine condensed milk and table cream. Stir until blended.
- Cut set gelatin into 1-inch cubes and divide into serving cups. Top with sweetened cream.
- Garnish with whipped cream, if desired. Serve cold.
Notes
- Knox brand gelatin works well to achieve the desired texture.
- Use approximately 4 cups of strong coffee for optimal flavor and firmness.
