Crescent Heart Danish Recipe

Report
The Crescent Heart Danish is a baked pastry made from crescent dough folded and sliced into heart shapes, filled with a sweetened cream cheese layer topped with raspberry jam. A buttery brown sugar glaze brushed on the edges enhances the crust's flavor and color, while a final drizzle of powdered sugar icing adds sweetness and a decorative touch. These pastries combine flaky dough with creamy and fruity fillings for a tender, sweet breakfast treat or dessert.

Description

The recipe begins by rolling and folding crescent dough sheets, then slicing and shaping them into hearts by pinching ends and pressing down centers. The filling consists of softened cream cheese mixed smoothly with powdered sugar, providing a creamy base under a layer of raspberry jam or other fruit preserves.

The edges are brushed with a butter and brown sugar mixture before baking at 350°F for 15-20 minutes until the crust turns golden. Once cooled, a simple icing made from powdered sugar and cream or milk is drizzled over the danishes, enhancing their sweetness and presentation.

These danishes offer a balance of flaky, buttery dough, tangy cream cheese, and fruity jam. They're suitable for breakfast, brunch, or a light dessert. The ability to use different jams allows customization of flavors.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 roll crescent dough sheets
  • 4 oz cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup raspberry jam or your favorite fruit, or preserves
  • 2 TB brown sugar
  • 2 TB butter melted

For the Icing:

  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 TB heavy cream or milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out crescent dough on flat surface, then fold the two sides in towards the middle, so the edges meet.
  3. Cut into half inch slices and place them on prepared baking sheet.
  4. Pinch the bottom of the slices into a point and then press down on top of the dough to form a heart shape.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  6. Scoop cream cheese mixture on top of each dough heart and spread almost to the edges.
  7. Spoon fruit filling on top of the cream cheese layer.
  8. Whisk together melted butter and brown sugar in a small bowl, then brush edges of hearts danishes with the butter mixture.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the crust just starts to turn golden brown.
  10. Whisk powdered sugar together with milk or cream and drizzle over the cooled danishes.

Notes

  • Allow cream cheese to reach room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Choose your favorite fruit jam or preserves to vary the flavor.
  • Brush edges evenly with butter-brown sugar mixture for a golden crust.
  • Cool the danishes before icing for best drizzle effect.
