Crockpot Turkey Stock Recipe

Crockpot turkey stock uses leftover turkey bones simmered in water in a slow cooker for 8 to 24 hours. The bones are broken into pieces to fit and simmered to extract rich flavor and nutrients, resulting in a flavorful broth suitable for soups or other recipes. This method utilizes leftover turkey parts efficiently and creates a homemade stock.

Description

The Crockpot Turkey Stock recipe begins with removing any stuffing and meat from turkey bones, discarding the skin. The bones are broken into smaller pieces to fit into a slow cooker, which is then filled with water to the fill line. Cooking on low, the stock simmers gently for 8 to 24 hours, allowing flavors, gelatin, and nutrients to extract from the bones.

Once cooking is complete, the liquid is strained first through a colander into a bowl to remove large solids, then through a fine-mesh sieve into a second bowl for a clear broth. The resulting turkey stock is rich and can be used immediately for soups or stored for later use in various dishes that benefit from homemade stock.

Instructions

  1. If you've stuffed your bird, remove all of the stuffing. Remove the meat from the bones and put aside for sandwiches or soup. Discard any skin.
  2. Break the bones into pieces that will fit in your crockpot. Fill your crockpot with as many of the bones as you can and then add water to the fill line.
  3. Now put the lid on and set the timer to cook on low for 8-24 hours.
  4. Set a colander over a large bowl. Carefully pour the turkey stock through the colander into the bowl. Take a second large bowl and place a fine-mesh sieve over it. Pour the stock through the fine-mesh sieve into the second bowl. You can use it right away to make soup or store it for later.
