Dulce de arrayán, or Guavaberry in syrup, is an interesting dessert inherited from the Cocolo community and traditional at Christmas time in San Pedro de Macorís.

Ingredients
- 2 cups guavaberry rinsed
- 3 ticks cinnamon
- 12 cloves
- 6 allspice berries malagüeta
- 1 cup granulated sugar granulated
- 12.7 ounces rum 375 ml, golden
Instructions
1. Combining ingredients
- Place the guavaberries, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, sugar, and water into a pot.
2. Cooking
- Heat and simmer over low heat until the water has reduced, the berries are very soft and has turned into a jam with some liquid left (about an hour). The cooking time may vary, so keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
3. Serving
- Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.Transfer to the refrigerator and serve chilled.
Notes
- This recipe will yield 4 servings of about ⅓ cup per serving.
