Easy Baked Tilapia (or Cod)

This Easy Baked Tilapia recipe features white fish fillets topped with a golden crust made from panko bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and spices. The fish is drizzled with butter and lemon juice before baking, resulting in flaky, tender fillets with a flavorful, textured topping. A quick broil at the end adds extra crispiness to the crust.

Description

The recipe begins by preheating the oven to 400°F and preparing a topping combining panko bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, parsley, and melted butter. White fish fillets such as tilapia or cod are rinsed, patted dry, then placed on a greased pan. They are drizzled with melted butter and fresh lemon juice for moisture and brightness.

The breadcrumb mixture is spread evenly over each fillet. The fish is baked approximately 15 minutes until cooked through and flaky, with the topping turning golden. Broiling for the last minute is optional to achieve a crispier finish on the topping. This method keeps the fish moist while adding a crunchy, savory crust.

This baked fish pairs well with sides like steamed vegetables or rice. The topping adds texture and flavor contrast to the mild white fish. The topping can be prepared ahead for convenience.
