Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • ½ yellow onion diced
  • 8 ounces broccoli chopped into bite sized pieces, florets
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger minced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional- see note)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and onion and cook breaking apart as you stir until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the sesame oil and chopped broccoli florets and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Then add the soy sauce, hoisin, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar (optional) to the beef and broccoli and stir until everything is well coated. Let simmer for another 2-3 minutes or until the broccoli is tender.
  4. Serve warm over rice, in lettuce wraps, or in a bowl.

Notes

  • Sweeter Beef and Broccoli
  • If you like your stir fry sweeter and stickier, you can add up to 1/4 cup brown sugar to the sauce mixture. I personally prefer to keep it lighter and I make this without the brown sugar.
  • Saucy Beef and Broccoli
  • This recipe has a light coating of sauce. If you like a really saucy stir fry, I would double the sauce ingredients to give you twice the amount of sauce.
