Easy Fairy Bread Recipe

Easy Fairy Bread is a simple, nostalgic treat consisting of white bread buttered on one side and topped with rainbow-colored nonpareil sprinkles. The bread is then cut into triangles or shaped with cookie cutters, offering a soft, buttery base with a colorful, crunchy sprinkle coating. This snack is often served at children's parties or casual gatherings and enjoyed fresh.

Description

To make this recipe, salt-free butter is softened and spread evenly over one side of white bread slices. After buttering, the bread is cut diagonally into triangles or cut into fun shapes using cookie cutters, depending on preference or event theme. Rainbow nonpareil sprinkles are pressed gently onto the buttered surface to adhere fully, creating a vibrant, festive appearance. The combination of soft textured bread, smooth butter, and the small crunchy sprinkles offers a light sweet snack that is visually appealing and quick to prepare.

Fairy Bread is traditionally served immediately or within a few hours to maintain freshness, as the bread can become stale or limp if stored too long. It is commonly enjoyed at children's parties or any celebration where simple, colorful snacks are favored. Using European or New Zealand butter enhances the flavor due to its richness and quality.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lice white bread
  • ½ TBS butter soft enough to butter bread, salted
  • 1 TBS nonpareils rainbow, sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Butter the slice of bread on one side of the bread (the top). You'll only butter one side, not both.
  2. Cut the bread in half diagonally and cut off the crusts (if desired). Alternately, you could use cookie cutters to cut a fun shape out of the bread instead.
  3. Spread the sprinkles across the top of the cut bread and press them down gently until the entire slice of bread is covered.
  4. Enjoy immediately or within a few hours!

Notes

  • For a traditional look, remove crusts and cut bread diagonally into triangle pieces.
  • Use cookie cutters to shape bread for themed parties or special occasions.
  • Prepare and serve fairy bread within a few hours to maintain freshness and texture.
  • European or New Zealand butter improves flavor due to higher butterfat content.
