Easy Ham Fried Rice Recipe

This ham fried rice combines butter, diced ham, frozen peas and carrots, scrambled eggs, and aromatic spices like garlic granules and ground ginger to create a savory, comforting dish. The use of coconut aminos provides a milder soy-like seasoning, while a touch of toasted sesame oil adds a subtle nutty finish. The fried rice is made by first scrambling eggs, then stir-frying vegetables and ham before mixing in the rice to soak up flavors. This approach yields a satisfying texture with tender ham and softened vegetables evenly distributed in flavorful rice.

Description

Easy Ham Fried Rice Recipe features leftover cooked rice stir-fried with diced ham, peas, and carrots, creating a filling and balanced meal. Butter is used to sauté the ingredients, imparting richness throughout. Scrambled eggs are cooked separately then gently folded in, adding protein and a soft texture. Garlic granules and ground ginger season the fried rice with mild aromatic notes, while coconut aminos and toasted sesame oil bring depth and a subtle sweetness to the dish. Each step in the method builds layers of flavor and ensures even cooking.

The dish is versatile for using up leftover rice and ham, making it practical for quick lunches or dinners. The inclusion of thawed frozen vegetables keeps preparation simple without compromising the vegetable content. By cooking the eggs first, the recipe maintains their fluffy texture and integrates them smoothly when combined with the rice and other ingredients.

Follow the cooking sequence carefully: scramble eggs first, then stir-fry the vegetables and ham, create a middle well to melt butter for the rice, and finally season before adding eggs and finishing with sesame oil. This will ensure that ingredients are cooked properly and the rice gains a nicely fried texture without becoming soggy.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 TBS butter salted
  • 2 egg whisked
  • 1 cup pea thawed, frozen
  • 1 cup carrot thawed, frozen
  • ½ cup ham diced
  • 2 cups leftover cooked rice
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 TBS coconut aminos
  • ½ tsp toasted seasame oil

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 TBS of the butter in a large saute pan or wok over medium-high heat. As the butter melts, swirl it around the pan to coat the entire surface of the pan.
  2. Immediately after the butter melts, add the whisked eggs and cook until scrambled, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the egg and set aside.
  3. Add the peas and carrots and ham to the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, until warmed.
  4. Make a well in the middle of the pan by pushing all of the ham and vegetables to the side. Add the last tablespoon of butter in the middle of the well and stir until melted.
  5. Immediately add the rice and stir into the melted butter for 1 minute.
  6. Stir ham and vegetables into the rice and continue stirring for 3 minutes until the rice is hot and fried.
  7. Sprinkle the garlic and ginger over the fried rice and stir continuously for one more minute.
  8. Add the egg and coconut aminos and stir for one more minute.
  9. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the sesame oil until combined.
  10. Taste and season with extra coconut aminos as needed. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • This recipe allows substitutions such as soy sauce instead of coconut aminos or garlic powder in place of garlic granules.
  • Feel free to swap peas and carrots for other finely diced frozen vegetables, ensuring they are thawed and cut small for even cooking.
