Easy Korean Beef
Description
In this Easy Korean Beef recipe, lean ground beef is cooked over medium heat, broken into small pieces until partially browned before garlic and fresh ginger are added to develop aroma. The beef is cooked through and excess fat drained off.
A flavorful sauce made of soy sauce, packed brown sugar, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, and black pepper is poured over the beef, mixing well and simmering briefly to meld the flavors and coat the meat. The result is a savory, slightly sweet, and mildly spicy minced beef dish.
Serving suggestions include rice bowls or lettuce wraps, often topped with thinly sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds for texture and freshness. Optional garnishes like chopped fresh cilantro and pickled red onions provide additional brightness and balance to the rich meat.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef lean
- 4 garlic minced, large cloves
- 2 tablespoons ginger fresh, minced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
- 1 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons Chili garlic sauce
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground
- 3 scallions thinly sliced
- sesame seeds toasted
- cilantro optional, chopped, fresh
- red onion optional, pickled
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Break it up into smaller pieces with a spatula as it cooks. When the beef is about halfway browned, stir in garlic and ginger, and continue to cook until beef is no longer pink. Drain off any fat.
- In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, and black pepper. Pour over browned beef and fold to combine. Simmer for a minute or two, until thoroughly warmed.
- Serve over hot rice or tucked into lettuce wraps. Sprinkle with scallions and sesame seeds. Offer fresh cilantro and pickled red onions on the side.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and grease in the final dish.
- Serve this Korean beef over hot rice or wrapped in lettuce leaves for variation.
- Fresh cilantro and pickled red onions are optional garnishes that complement the savory meat.
