Easy Pork Feet Recipe

This recipe for pork feet uses simmering with aromatics like ginger, green onion, garlic, and spices including star anise to develop a flavorful, tender braised meat dish. The pork feet are first blanched in cold water to remove odors, then cooked low and slow until soft. The sauce includes soy sauce, cooking wine, and sugar, yielding a rich, savory-sweet glaze that thickens over the final cooking stage.

Description

Easy Pork Feet Recipe starts by carefully cleaning and cutting pig's feet. By adding the feet to cold water and boiling briefly, impurities are removed before braising. The feet are then simmered in a mixture of vegetable oil, soy sauces, cooking wine, garlic, onion, and star anise for about an hour or until tender. This approach produces gelatinous, soft pork feet with flavorful seasoning infused throughout.

The resulting dish is coated in a thickened sauce that balances savoriness from soy sauces with a hint of sweetness from sugar, complemented by subtle spice aromas. The meat becomes tender enough to easily pull away from the bone, and the sauce clings well to the pieces. The pork feet can be served hot as a main or shared appetizer.

Slow cooker and pressure cooker options are available to shorten cooking time and enhance tenderness. Using a pressure cooker yields especially soft meat in 30 minutes. For slow cookers, cooking times range 3-6 hours. This flexibility allows adaptation to kitchen equipment and preferred textures. Adding salt at the end ensures the seasoning suits your taste.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½ pounds pig's feet
  • 1 inch ginger sliced
  • 1 green onion chopped
  • 3 garlic minced, cloves
  • 1/2 onion sliced
  • 1/3 cup cooking wine (you can also use beer)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce I used 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce and 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 star anise
  • 1-2 teaspoons salt
  • water as needed

Instructions

  1. Remove the hair and cut them into smaller chunks. Rinse them thoroughly before cooking.
  2. Add cold water and pig feet to a large saucepan or pot. (Make sure the pig feet are submerged with water.)
  3. Add ginger and green onion. Bring to boil and cook for 5 minutes, and drain the water.
  4. In a wok or skillet over medium heat, add oil, garlic, and onion. Stir fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add pig feet chunks, star anises, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, cooking wine, and sugar to the skillet.
  6. Then add water to make sure the liquid covers the pork feet completely.
  7. Bring to boil, and then lower the heat. Cover the lid and simmer for 50 minutes to 1 hour until pork feet have become completely tender.
  8. Remove the lid. If the sauce is not thick enough, turn the heat to medium-high, stir-fry until the sauce has thickened.
  9. Taste test and add salt to your taste. Serve and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Start by boiling pig's feet in cold water for 5 minutes to remove odors before braising.
  • Pressure cooking for 30 minutes can shorten cooking time and results in more tender meat.
  • Slow cookers are an alternative: high for 3 hours or low for 5-6 hours to soften the skin and meat.
