Filipino Fruit Salad
Description
The Filipino Fruit Salad features a blend of tropical fruits including fruit cocktail, young coconut meat shredded into strips, kaong, and nata de coco, all bound in a mixture of sweetened condensed milk and chilled all-purpose cream. Draining syrup from the canned fruits prevents excess liquid, ensuring a creamy and thick consistency. The cream and condensed milk mixture balances the natural sweetness of the fruits and adds richness.
The different fruit textures, from the tender coconut strips to the jelly-like nata de coco and the chewy kaong, create a varied mouthfeel that defines this salad. Chilling the salad for several hours allows flavors to meld, making it refreshing and enjoyable especially in warmer weather.
This dessert is commonly served cold as a sweet ending to meals or as a festive treat. It can also be frozen for longer storage, making it convenient to prepare ahead of time for gatherings or celebrations.
