French Yogurt Cake Recipe

The French Yogurt Cake is a simple, moist cake made from yogurt, flour, sugar, eggs, and oil, leavened with baking powder. Its straightforward mixing method yields a smooth batter that bakes into a tender crumb with subtle tang from the yogurt. The cake's mild flavor and soft texture make it versatile for everyday desserts.

Description

This cake blends yogurt with baking powder, all-purpose flour, sugar, eggs, and neutral cooking oil to create a smooth batter. The yogurt adds moisture and a slight tang, distinguishing its flavor and texture from other basic cakes. After greasing the cake pan with butter, the batter is poured in and baked at 350°F (180°C) for about 30-35 minutes, until a knife inserted comes out clean.

The finished cake results in a tender, lightly sweetened crumb that works well plain or with a dusting of powdered sugar. It pairs with tea or coffee and can be served as a snack or light dessert. The recipe notes caution to use baking powder, not baking soda, and suggest that substituting half the flour with corn flour produces an even fluffier texture.
