Fried Cheese Balls with Parmesan
Description
This recipe combines grated Parmesan cheese with egg whites to create a cohesive mixture seasoned simply with salt and black pepper. The mixture is then shaped into balls that hold their shape during frying. The coating process involves dredging each ball first in flour, which helps the egg yolk layer adhere, then dipping into beaten egg yolks, and finally coating with panko breadcrumbs, which contribute to a light, crisp crust.
Frying is done over medium heat to develop a uniform golden-brown color on the outside while allowing the cheese inside to melt slightly without burning. These cheese balls are best served warm, ensuring their center is soft and the exterior remains crispy, making them a flavorful appetizer or snack.
The recipe notes recommend frying over low heat if a longer cooking time is needed to ensure the interior is fully cooked without over-browning the exterior.
