Furikake Fries

Furikake Fries are crispy shoestring fries coated with Japanese furikake seasoning, optionally enhanced with togarashi spice. The fries offer a crunchy texture with umami-rich, savory flavors from the furikake, highlighted by seaweed, sesame, and salt notes. The togarashi adds a hint of heat and complexity, creating a flavorful twist on classic fries.

Description

This recipe uses frozen shoestring fries that are either baked at 350°F (177°C) for 30-40 minutes or deep-fried until golden and crispy. After cooking, the fries are transferred to a serving dish and evenly tossed with 1 to 2 teaspoons of furikake seasoning, a Japanese condiment typically containing seaweed, sesame seeds, salt, and fish flakes. For those who prefer a spicy kick, togarashi powder can be dusted on top. The furikake brings a distinct umami and savory flavor profile that complements the crispness of the fries. The seasoning level can be adjusted according to taste, especially when using store-bought furikake which may vary in saltiness.
