Gochujang-Glazed Salmon

Gochujang-Glazed Salmon features wild salmon filets coated in a spicy, sweet Korean-style glaze made from gochujang, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar. The salmon is broiled to develop a crisp surface while remaining tender inside, then finished with toasted sesame oil, black sesame seeds, scallions, and minced garlic and ginger. This approach balances rich fish flavor with tangy, pungent glaze notes. The recipe offers a straightforward method to make an Asian-inspired main dish that pairs well with rice or steamed vegetables.

Description

This recipe for Gochujang-Glazed Salmon highlights wild salmon filets brushed with a sticky glaze combining gochujang, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and toasted sesame oil, accented by fresh garlic and ginger. Broiling the salmon quickly cooks it, forming a caramelized crust from the glaze while preserving a moist interior. The finishing touches of scallions and black sesame seeds add mild crunch and fresh herbal notes. This dish brings together bold Korean flavors and a gentle cooking method to enhance the salmon's natural taste without overpowering it.

The glaze ingredients are mixed into a simple sauce applied during broiling, allowing the fish to acquire balanced sweet, salty, and spicy layers. Cooking over high heat for a short time keeps the texture tender and flaky. This technique works well for 4-ounce salmon fillets and avoids overly soft or dry salmon.

This salmon recipe pairs naturally with plain steamed rice, which soaks up the flavorful glaze. It also complements simple vegetable sides steamed or stir-fried with a light seasoning. Quick to prepare yet distinctive, this dish suits home cooks looking for a flavorful seafood option with a Korean twist.

The recipe is adapted from a Korean cookbook, suggesting authenticity to the flavor profile. For best results, watch the broiler carefully to prevent overcooking and burn spots. The glaze can be adjusted in sweetness or spice by altering the sugar or gochujang amounts.
