Greek Milk Pie

Greek Milk Pie combines semolina, milk, sugar, and butter into a creamy custard baked in a tart pan, topped with an egg and sugar glaze. Orange zest adds a subtle citrus aroma. This dense, smooth pie is finished golden brown and often served with cinnamon and confectioners sugar for extra sweetness and spice. It makes a comforting dessert with vibrant flavors.

Description

Greek Milk Pie is prepared by slowly cooking whole milk with sugar, semolina, and orange zest until it thickens slightly, creating a dense custard base. After removing from heat, butter and beaten eggs are whisked in for richness and structure. The custard is poured into a buttered tart pan and topped with a glaze made from eggs and sugar, which browns attractively during baking at 375°F for about 45-50 minutes.

The finished pie has a creamy and firm texture with a golden, slightly crisp top. The orange zest imparts a bright fragrance that complements the mild custard. It’s traditionally served dusted with confectioners sugar and ground cinnamon, which add sweetness and a warm spice contrast to the creamy filling.

This dessert highlights the use of semolina for body and relies on simple pantry ingredients. It’s a filling and fragrant dish suitable for a variety of occasions where a mildly sweet, custardy pie is desired.
