Greek Shrimp Recipe

Greek Shrimp is a tomato-based dish where shrimp cooks gently in a sweet and savory sauce made with cherry tomatoes, honey, and a blend of Greek herbs. The tomatoes simmer until jammy, enveloping the shrimp in a thick, flavorful sauce. Feta cheese adds creaminess and saltiness at the end, complemented by fresh parsley and a touch of lemon zest to brighten the dish. This recipe balances tender shrimp with a richly seasoned sauce and offers a Mediterranean flavor profile.

Description

The Greek Shrimp recipe begins by simmering red onion, garlic, and cherry tomatoes in olive oil, honey, and a Greek seasoning blend including herbs and mild chili flakes. The tomatoes soften and reduce to a thick, jam-like sauce with gentle simmering. Shrimp is added and cooked just until opaque, ensuring it stays tender. Off the heat, crumbled feta cheese is folded in, melting slightly to create a creamy contrast to the tomato sauce. Fresh parsley and lemon zest finish the dish with bright herbal and citrus notes.

The flavor is a harmony of sweet, savory, and mildly spicy with herbaceous nuances typical of Greek cooking. The shrimp provide a firm, meaty texture against the softness of the jammy tomatoes and creamy feta. Cooking shrimp directly in the sauce infuses the dish with seafood flavor while keeping the shrimp moist.

This dish can be enjoyed as a main course with crusty bread to soak up the sauce or served over rice or pasta. The balance of fresh herbs, tangy lemon, and feta makes it suitable for a light yet satisfying meal.

The use of a homemade Greek seasoning blend adds authenticity but can be substituted with equal parts dried basil and oregano if needed. Careful cooking time ensures shrimp remains tender and the tomatoes develop a thick sauce without burning.
