Honey Garlic Meatballs Recipe

Honey Garlic Meatballs combine ground beef and pork with oats, onion, and ginger to create tender meatballs baked to a safe internal temperature. They are coated in a rich sauce made from honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, butter, garlic, and a cornstarch slurry to create a glossy, thick glaze. Garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, these meatballs balance savory, sweet, and tangy flavors.

Description

This recipe mixes ground beef and pork with grated onion, ginger, soy sauce, oats, and eggs to form flavorful meatballs that bake evenly and stay moist. The oats help bind the meat, while the fresh aromatics add depth. Baking at 400°F ensures they cook thoroughly in about 15 minutes.

The sauce combines melted butter, garlic, honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar to deliver a sweet and tangy coating. Cornstarch mixed with cold water is added to thicken the sauce quickly once heated, allowing it to cling to the meatballs. The inclusion of liquid smoke in the original recipe notes adds complexity but is optional here.

After baking, the meatballs are tossed in the warm sauce and served garnished with green onions and sesame seeds for texture and mild nuttiness. This dish works well as an appetizer or part of a main course. Leftover sauce and meatballs can be stored and reheated carefully to preserve texture.

For convenience, pre-made thawed meatballs can be substituted, reducing preparation time significantly.

Ingredients

Servings

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef lean
  • 1 lb ground pork lean
  • ½ cup rolled oats or breadcrumbs or almond flour
  • ¼ cup onion grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ginger grated
  • 2 large egg
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt sea salt

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce each
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar each
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water
  • green onions to serve
  • sesame seeds to serve

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix all the meatball ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Roll the meat into 38 balls (a medium-sized cookie scoop works great for this) and place them on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. While the meatballs are baking, make the sauce. Melt the butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute, until soft. Then, add the honey soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar.
  4. Mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water in a cup or small bowl. Pour this into the hot sauce and stir until it thickens, about 2 minutes.
  5. When the meatballs have finished baking, add them to the pan with the sauce and mix so that they are coated in the sauce. Serve the meatballs with some green onions and sesame seeds sprinkled over the top.

Notes

  • Using thawed store-bought meatballs can speed up the cooking process without sacrificing flavor.
