Honey Sriracha Chicken Recipe
Description
The recipe combines honey and sriracha with ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic to create a glaze that both flavors and bastes chicken drumsticks during baking. The chicken is baked at 425°F in a single layer and periodically basted with pan juices to develop a sticky coating.
This method yields drumsticks with a glossy surface where the sugars in honey caramelize, balanced by the heat and acidity from sriracha and vinegar. The ginger and garlic contribute aromatic warmth. Topping the finished chicken with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and lime wedges introduces fresh and nutty accents, along with a hint of citrus brightness.
The glaze can be thickened further by boiling it separately after cooking, allowing control over its texture before serving. The dish works well as a flavorful main that pairs nicely with plain rice or steamed vegetables, relying on the coating for most of the flavor.
Ingredients
- ½ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons sriracha or more to taste
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce gluten-free if needed
- 1 teaspoon ginger grated
- 2 cloves garlic finely minced
- 8 chicken drumstick skin-on or skinless
- green onion for serving, wedges
- sesame seed
- lime
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. In a small bowl mix, the honey, ketchup, sriracha, rice vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic.
- Place the chicken drumsticks in a single layer in a baking dish. Pour the sauce over the top and mix it around so that the chicken is coated in the sauce. Bake the chicken, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
- Baste the chicken with some of the sauce in the pan then return it to the oven for 15 minutes, basting it two more times so the glaze coats the chicken well. Serve the chicken with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, lime wedges, and all the sticky sauce from the pan.
Notes
- Glaze can be thickened after cooking by boiling it in a pan for 1-3 minutes; it will thicken further as it cools.
- Use sriracha amount to taste depending on spice preference.
- Slicing green onions and adding sesame seeds and lime wedges at serving adds freshness and texture contrast.
- Arrange chicken in a single layer for even baking and thorough glazing.
