Instant Pot Chinese Sweet Potato Soup

This Instant Pot recipe produces a comforting Chinese sweet potato soup combining chunks of sweet potato with sliced ginger, brown sugar in solid form, and a pinch of salt in water. Pressure cooking softens the sweet potatoes, then a brief simmer and gentle mashing thickens the broth into a smooth, hearty consistency. The ginger adds warmth and aroma, while the brown sugar provides subtle sweetness typical of this Asian dessert soup.

Description

Sweet potato chunks and sliced old ginger simmer under pressure with brown sugar pieces and a pinch of salt, merging into a fragrant broth. After pressure cooking, simmering and breaking down some of the sweet potatoes enrich the soup's body, balancing the mild natural sweetness with additional brown sugar as needed. The cooking method preserves a warm, soothing flavor profile characteristic of Chinese sweet soups.

This soup is served warm as a dessert or refreshment and highlights the use of specialized brown sugar pieces (
