Mango Lassi
Description
Mango Lassi combines ripe mango pieces with plain yogurt and milk to create a smooth and creamy beverage. The mangoes provide natural sweetness and fruitiness, while the yogurt adds tang and richness. Sugar or honey adjusts sweetness to taste, and a pinch of ground cardamom lends a mild aromatic spice characteristic of traditional Indian lassis.
The ingredients are blended until thoroughly combined and can be adjusted with additional milk for a thinner consistency or more yogurt for creaminess. Ice cubes can be added for a chilled, thicker texture resembling a milkshake. Chilling the lassi before serving enhances its refreshing quality.
This drink is commonly served as a dessert drink or a palate cleanser, especially alongside spicy meals. It can be garnished with cardamom, cinnamon, saffron strands, whipped cream, or fresh mint for extra flavor and presentation.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups Mango about 2-3 medium sized mangoes), see blog post on "How to Choose a Ripe Mango" and "How to Cut a Mango", diced, ripe, fresh or frozen
- 2 cups PLAIN yogurt (I recommend full-fat but you can use light or non-fat it preferred)
- 4-6 tablespoons granulated sugar or according to taste (start with less, taste, and add more as desired, or 2-3 tablespoons honey
- or alternative sweetener
- 1/2 cup milk
- ground cardamom start with less, taste, and add more as desired, pinch
- ice cubes , optional if you want a thicker consistency (you can also freeze the mango in advance)
Instructions
- In a blender, add the mango, yogurt, sugar or honey, ground cardamom and milk. Blend the ingredients until smooth and well combined. Taste and add more sweetener and/or cardamom if desired. If you prefer it thinner, add a little more milk. For a creamier texture, add some more yogurt. (If you want a thicker, more milkshake-like consistency or do not want to wait to chill the mango lassi before serving, blend in some ice.) Chill the mango lassi in the fridge until nice and cold. Will keep for up to 24 hours (give it a stir if contents have separated).
- To serve, pour the mango lassi into serving glasses. You can garnish it with any of the following: a sprinkle of ground cardamom, cinnamon, a few strands of saffron, a dollop of whipped cream, and/or a sprig of fresh mint.
