Mars Bar Slice
Description
This Mars Bar Slice uses chopped Mars Bars melted with butter as the binding base mixed with puffed rice cereal, providing a combination of chewy caramel and nougat flavors with light crunch. After pressing firmly into a lined pan, a smooth layer of melted milk chocolate mixed with vegetable oil is spread over the top, which forms a creamy and shiny finish once set.
The slice is refrigerated for several hours to solidify, allowing easy cutting and firm texture without crumbling. The blend of chocolate and puffed rice creates contrast between smoothness and crispness.
The bars are cut with a hot dry knife to produce neat squares that hold together well. This treat offers indulgent chocolate flavors complemented by the distinctive caramel and nougat from the Mars bars, making it suitable as a sweet snack or dessert.
Notes indicate that using milk chocolate instead of cooking chocolate improves the creamy taste, and persistent separation of the Mars bar and butter mixture during melting should be resolved by stirring off the heat before combining with cereal.
Ingredients
- 7 oz Mars bars , chopped (see note 1)
- ⅓ cup butter chopped, salted
- 3 cups puffed rice cereal (see note 2)
- 9 oz milk chocolate (see note 3)
- 1½ tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Line a 28x 18cm / 7" x 11" rectangle pan with baking/parchment paper.
- Combine the chopped Mars Bars and butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly until the mixture has melted. (see note 4)7 oz / 200 g Mars bars⅓ cup / 70 g salted butter
- Stir in the puffed rice cereal and press the mixture evenly into the lined tray. Push the mixture firmly to ensure the finished slice doesn't crumble.3 cups / 150 g puffed rice cereal
- Put the milk chocolate and vegetable oil in a microwavable bowl. Microwave at 50% power for 3 minutes, stirring every 20-30 seconds until the mixture completely melts.9 oz / 250 g milk chocolate1½ tbsp vegetable oil
- Pour the melted chocolate evenly over the slice.
- Refrigerate for at least 3 hours until set solid.
- Use a hot, dry knife to cut your slice into even squares.
Notes
- Mars Bars have nougat and caramel covered in smooth chocolate, called Milky Ways in the US.
- Rice Bubbles, Rice Krispies, or any puffed rice cereal can be used for the base.
- Use milk chocolate for a creamier topping rather than cooking chocolate.
- If the Mars bar and butter mixture separates while melting, remove from heat and stir well before mixing with cereal.
