Mediterranean Falafel Bowls

Mediterranean Falafel Bowls combine falafel patties with fresh vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, and red onion, along with feta cheese and tabouli salad. Hummus provides a creamy base while extra virgin olive oil and optional sumac finish the dish. This bowl assembles Mediterranean flavors into a colorful, fresh meal.

Description

This recipe assembles homemade or store-bought falafel patties with Mediterranean staples. The bowl is built by spreading a dollop of hummus, then layering tabouli salad and several falafel patties. Fresh sliced tomatoes, cucumber, radishes, and thinly sliced red onion add crispness and bright notes. Slices of feta cheese contribute a creamy, salty element. A drizzle of high-quality extra virgin olive oil enhances the flavors, and a sprinkle of sumac adds subtle lemony tang if desired.

The falafel provides a spiced, fried chickpea base with a crisp exterior and tender interior, balanced by the fresh vegetables and signature Middle Eastern seasonings in the salad. The hummus lends a smooth texture that complements the varied textures from the crunchy vegetables and creamy cheese. This dish works well as a vegetarian main course or hearty side, offering a balance of protein, fresh produce, and vibrant Mediterranean flavors.

Falafel patties, hummus, and salad components can be prepared and stored separately ahead of time for up to several days in the refrigerator. Falafel can be cooked from frozen for convenience. Variations include omitting feta for a vegan option, substituting vegetables based on availability, swapping hummus for other Mediterranean dips, or adding grains or cooked vegetables for added heartiness.
