Mixed Berry Crisp

Report
Mixed Berry Crisp combines a blend of fresh berries topped with a buttery, cinnamon-spiced oat crumble that bakes to a golden, crunchy finish. The contrast between the tender, juicy berries underneath and the crisp oat topping makes for a satisfying texture and balanced sweetness. This dessert is flexible with berry choices and spices, ideal for seasonal fruit and serving with cold ice cream or warm custard.

Description

Mixed Berry Crisp features a base of mixed berries sweetened with caster sugar and covered with a topping made from oats, plain flour, cinnamon, and light brown sugar. The butter is cut into the dry ingredients to form an even crumble that bakes crisp and golden. The baking temperature and time allow the berries to soften and release their juices while the crumble crisps on top, creating a moist, fruity interior beneath a hearty topping.

The flavor is bright from the berries with a warm spice note of cinnamon, though the recipe suggests ginger or nutmeg can be substituted or combined for variation. The texture balance between the juicy, tender berries and the crunchy oat crust is a highlight.

This crisp can be served warm with ice cream or custard for added richness and is adaptable to various berry combinations depending on availability. It works well with frozen berries and can also top stewed apples, showing its versatility.
