Mochi Waffle (Moffle) 餅ワッフル

Mochi Waffle known as moffle in Japan is a hybrid waffle made from Mochi. How to make them, toppings suggestions and sauce recipes included.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 mochi *1

Making mochi dough from glutinous flour

  • 1/2 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp sugar *2

Suggested Toppings : Savoury

  • 1/4 cup daikon 3, grated
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce *4
  • a leaf shiso *5
  • 1 tsp sesame seed roasted

Suggested Toppings : Sweet

  • 1 coop Ice cream 6, any flavour
  • 1 tbsp azuki bean paste 7, sweet, anko
  • 1 tsp kuromitsu *8

Instructions

Using commercially made Mochi

  1. Start to preheat waffle iron on high heat.
  2. Remove plastic packages from the Mochi and place them on the pre heated waffle iron.
  3. Press the waffle iron after about one and half minutes and leave it pressed for a further 30 seconds.
  4. Turn the waffle iron over and cook the other side for 2 minutes.
  5. Remove mochi waffles from the waffle iron and serve on a plate.
  6. Top with your chosen ingredients.

Notes

  • *1  Two individually packed commercially made mochi. If you are going to make your own mochi from sweet mochi rice, see my How to make mochi recipe. 
  • *2 I used "Shiratamako" I bought from a local Japanese grocery store. It had an after taste even though it listed only sweet rice as ingredient. So I added sugar to disguise the taste. 
  • *3 See my Daikon post for suitable part of daikon to be grated.
