Mushroom and Swiss Burger

Easy and delicious Mushroom Swiss Burger recipe full of flavor from a juicy hamburger topped with sliced mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef chuck (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 
  • 2 teaspoons granulated garlic
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 brioche hamburger buns
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms (baby bella), sliced
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 pound ground beef chuck with 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon granulated garlic,1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon ground black pepper until all ingredients are well blended. Divide the mixture into (4) ¼ pound equal portions and shape into burger patties.
  2. Preheat a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers for about 5 - 7 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of doneness. It is recommended that beef be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F. Add a slice of Swiss cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking and let it melt.
  3. While the burgers cook, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook until the onions are caramelized and the mushrooms are golden brown, about 10 - 15 minutes. Stir occasionally, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster oven until lightly golden.
  5. To assemble the burgers, place a burger patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with the sautéed onions and mushrooms. Add any additional toppings you like, such as lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, or mustard. Finish with the top half of the bun.
  6. Serve the mushroom Swiss burgers hot, and ENJOY!

Notes

  • It is best to store the burger patties and toppings separately. And store the burger buns separately as well.
  • FRIDGE: Wrap burger patties tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. You an also place them in an airtight container. Store the onions and mushrooms in an airtight container as well. Let the leftovers cool completely and then store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
  • FREEZER: Wrap a patty in plastic wrap and then place it into a freezer bag or airtight container. Freeze for 1-2 months and allow to thaw completely before reheating.
  • Thaw any frozen leftovers before reheating. Then place a patty in the microwave or oven and heat until fully warmed through. Heat the onions and mushrooms in the oven or on the stovetop. You can pop the buns in the toaster oven or on a warm skillet to heat them up too.
