Nutella Waffles
Description
Nutella Waffles are made by blending rolled oats into oat flour, which forms the base of the waffle batter. Banana adds natural sweetness and moisture while the melted homemade Nutella provides a rich chocolate-hazelnut note. Ground cinnamon and vanilla extract contribute subtle aromatic warmth. The batter is poured into a greased waffle maker and cooked until golden and tender. The final waffles have a delicate crumb thanks to the oat flour and baking powder.
Serving the waffles hot with a dollop of Greek yogurt and fresh strawberries introduces creamy and tart contrasts, complementing the sweet and chocolatey waffles. Optional melted Nutella on top adds extra indulgence.
Tips include not overmixing the batter to avoid density, and substituting oat flour with plain flour for lighter waffles. You can also incorporate blueberries for additional fruit flavor or enhance with orange essence. Waffles can be kept warm in a low oven if making a batch and oats should be certified gluten-free for strict gluten intolerance.
Ingredients
- 70 g rolled oats
- 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 banana
- 1 egg
- 8 tablespoon milk whole
- 2 tablespoon Nutella melted, homemade
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
To serve
- Nutella optional, melted
- Greek yogurt
- strawberry
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle maker.
- Place 70 g Rolled oats in a blender and blend until it makes a powder. Put in a large bowl and add 0.5 teaspoon Baking powder and 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon.
- Put 1 Banana, 1 Egg, 8 tablespoon Whole milk, 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract and 2 tablespoon Homemade Nutella (melted) into a blender and blend until smooth. Add the wet liquid to the oat flour and mix until smooth.
- Grease your waffle maker and using a ladle, add the mixture to your heated waffle maker (it should make 4 waffles depending on the size of your waffle maker), close the lid and cook according to the instructions of your waffle maker. These take around 5 minutes in our waffle maker.
- Serve hot with Melted Nutella, Greek yogurt and strawberries on top.
Notes
- Mix batter gently to prevent dense waffles.
- Oat flour can be swapped for plain flour to lighten texture.
- Store-bought Nutella works if homemade isn't available.
- Add fresh blueberries into the batter for fruit variations.
- Enhance flavor with a drop of orange essence alongside chocolate.
- Avoid opening the waffle maker during cooking to prevent breaking.
- Keep cooked waffles warm in a 135°C oven while cooking remaining batter.
- Any milk type, including plant-based, can replace whole milk.
- For gluten-free waffles, use certified gluten-free oats.
