Olive Garden Apple Carmelina
Description
This recipe combines drained canned apple slices with sugar, brown sugar, apple pie spice, salt, and flour to create a sweet, spiced filling. Transferred to a buttered baking dish, the filling is topped with a mixture of flour, salt, brown sugar, white sugar, and softened butter worked together until coarse crumbs form. The streusel topping adds a crunchy texture complementing the soft cooked apples.
Baked at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes, the dessert develops a golden crust over the spiced apple base. Serving it with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce enhances the warm flavors with creaminess and rich sweetness, echoing classic fall desserts.
For fresh apples, peeling, coring, chopping, and gently cooking them in water until tender before using will approximate the texture of canned fruit. The recommended apple varieties for fresh use are Braeburn or Honey Crisp.
