For the steaks

  • 1 lb beef steaks , very thin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chopped oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • vegetable oil
  • black pepper

For the onions

  • 1 onion , thinly sliced

For the sandwich

  • 2 loaves Cuban bread , French type
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise , optional
  • ½ lettuce , finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes , sliced ​​(optional)
  • 12 oz. thin , hot and crispy fries
  • melted butter

Instructions

Steaks

  1. Combine salt, garlic powder, oregano, cumin and black pepper in a small bowl.
  2. Season the steaks on both sides with this seasoning mixture.
  3. Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a very large skillet over medium to high heat. When the oil is very hot, almost smoking, add as many steaks as there is space in the pan, without overloading it.
  4. Cook the steaks for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through. Remove pan from heat, remove steaks to a plate or skillet and keep warm.
  5. Repeat with the remaining steaks.
  6. It will probably be necessary to add another tablespoon of oil to cook the second batch of steaks.

Onions

  1. In the same skillet, over low to medium heat, add the sliced onion.
  2. Sauté the onion, stirring frequently, for 3 to 5 minutes until it begin to soften.
  3. Remove skillet from heat and set aside.
  4. Assembly of the sandwich
  5. Cut each loaf in half to make 4 slices.
  6. Then open each piece by cutting it in half lengthwise.
  7. Add a steak and a quarter of the onions to the bottom half of the piece of bread.
  8. Then add the lettuce, then the mayonnaise and tomato slices (optional).
  9. Add a generous amount of fries and cover with the top part.

Heater

  1. Brush the sandwich with melted butter using a pastry brush.
  2. Place the sandwich in a sandwich press and gently press the pan con bistec for a few minutes until the bread is toasted and begins to flatten.
  3. Serve immediately.
