Instructions
Steaks
- Combine salt, garlic powder, oregano, cumin and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Season the steaks on both sides with this seasoning mixture.
- Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a very large skillet over medium to high heat. When the oil is very hot, almost smoking, add as many steaks as there is space in the pan, without overloading it.
- Cook the steaks for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through. Remove pan from heat, remove steaks to a plate or skillet and keep warm.
- Repeat with the remaining steaks.
- It will probably be necessary to add another tablespoon of oil to cook the second batch of steaks.
Onions
- In the same skillet, over low to medium heat, add the sliced onion.
- Sauté the onion, stirring frequently, for 3 to 5 minutes until it begin to soften.
- Remove skillet from heat and set aside.
- Assembly of the sandwich
- Cut each loaf in half to make 4 slices.
- Then open each piece by cutting it in half lengthwise.
- Add a steak and a quarter of the onions to the bottom half of the piece of bread.
- Then add the lettuce, then the mayonnaise and tomato slices (optional).
- Add a generous amount of fries and cover with the top part.
Heater
- Brush the sandwich with melted butter using a pastry brush.
- Place the sandwich in a sandwich press and gently press the pan con bistec for a few minutes until the bread is toasted and begins to flatten.
- Serve immediately.
