Pecan Crusted Salmon Recipe

Pecan Crusted Salmon features salmon fillets topped with toasted, chopped pecans and seasoned with sea salt, paprika, and black pepper. The fillets are cooked in a buttery sauce flavored with garlic, ginger, and maple syrup, then broiled to develop a browned, crunchy pecan crust complemented by tender fish and lemon wedges.

Description

This recipe starts by toasting pecans to enhance their flavor and then finely chopping them. The salmon fillets are seasoned and coated with the pecans on top, creating a textured crust. Garlic and ginger are sautéed in butter to create a fragrant sauce, mixed with maple syrup to add sweetness and balance the savory crust and fish.

The salmon is first cooked on the stovetop in this flavored butter sauce before transferring to the oven broiler to brown and crisp the pecans. The lemon wedges nestled beside the fish add brightness and acidity when served. The result is a dish with a crisp, nutty crust, tender, flaky salmon inside, and a sweet and savory glaze.

The dish can also be served cold with salad, making it suitable for meal prepping or a chilled lunch option.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup pecans
  • 4 portions salmon
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic very finely minced
  • 1 inch ginger very finely minced, piece
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 lemon cut into 4 thick slices

Instructions

  1. Place a rack in the top third of your oven and preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pecans on a baking tray and put them into the oven for 6-8 minutes, until they darken and smell fragrant. Remove them from the oven and turn your oven to broil.
  2. Chop the pecans either by hand or using a food processor.
  3. Season the salmon with sea salt, paprika, and pepper. Use your hands to rub the seasoning evenly over the fillets. Divide the pecans between the salmon (on the tops only) and pat down gently.
  4. Melt the butter in a large, ovenproof frying pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for one minute.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the maple syrup. Carefully add the salmon fillets to the pan, pecan-coated side facing up, and nestle the lemon wedges between them. Spoon some of the sauce over the fillets. Put the pan back on the heat for 4 minutes.
  6. Transfer the pan to the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until the tops have browned. Serve immediately with some of the maple sauce spooned over the top.

Notes

  • This salmon is excellent served cold alongside a salad for a light lunch or meal prep.
