Plum Cobbler Recipe

The Plum Cobbler is a baked fruit dessert featuring a sweetened plum filling topped with tender, buttery biscuit dough. Quartered plums are mixed with sugar, flour, and vanilla, then covered with thick dollops of dough before baking, resulting in a warm cobbler with a juicy fruit base and a soft, golden crust.

Description

This Plum Cobbler recipe layers a spiced, sweet plum filling beneath a biscuit-like topping. The fruit mixture includes quartered plums combined with granulated sugar, a bit of flour to thicken juices, and vanilla for aroma. The topping blends flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter worked into a crumbly dough, mixed with milk to form a soft batter. Small pieces of this dough are spread across the plums before baking.

Baked at 350°F, the cobbler cooks until the topping is golden and a toothpick inserted into the crust comes out clean, while the plums soften to a juicy consistency. The contrast between the bubbling fruit beneath and the tender topping creates a classic cobbler texture and flavor.

This dessert is variable by plum variety; yellow plums were used in the example, but any plums suit this method. Letting the cobbler rest before serving helps the juices settle. It’s suitable for serving as a cozy dessert, enjoyed warm, potentially with cream or ice cream.
