Poached Pears in Wine

Poached Pears in Wine feature whole pears gently simmered in red Beaujolais wine infused with sugar and vanilla sugar until tender and translucent. The slow poaching allows the pears to absorb the flavored wine, resulting in a soft texture and a deep, fragrant taste. The wine is then reduced into a syrup to serve alongside the pears, enhancing their sweetness and aroma. This preparation works well as a simple and elegant dessert.

Description

Poached Pears in Wine use whole pears peeled with stems left intact and bases trimmed to stand upright. They are cooked by immersion in a boiling mixture of red Beaujolais wine, sugar, and vanilla sugar, then simmered for about 35 to 40 minutes until the pears become tender and translucent. The poaching process imparts the wine's fruity and spiced flavors into the fruit.

Once cooked, the pears are carefully removed from the cooking liquid, which is then further boiled to reduce into a thicker syrup. This syrup is spooned over the pears when serving, enriching them with concentrated flavor and a glossy finish. The pears remain soft yet retain their shape, making this dessert visually appealing and flavorful.

This dish is suited as a refined dessert option, served at room temperature or chilled. The wine syrup adds a luscious element that complements the mellow sweetness of the pear. The method is straightforward and allows the natural pear flavor to shine while enhanced by the red wine and vanilla aroma.
