Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet potato peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion diced, medium
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef or ground lamb for a more traditional taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables peas, carrots, corn

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Boil potatoes until tender, about 15 minutes, then drain.
  2. Mash potatoes with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook onions and garlic until soft. Add ground beef or lamb, cooking until browned.
  4. Stir in flour, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Add mixed vegetables to the skillet, cook for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes on top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the potatoes are golden. Let cool before serving.
